On stage at Rhino Room

Back to Pirie St: We’re Bringing the Chaos Home for Adelaide Fringe 2026

There’s an old saying that things get “lost in translation,” but in our experience, that’s exactly where the best stories start.

After a massive year taking the show to the Edinburgh Fringe and playing to audiences across the globe, the Lost in Translation crew is officially heading home. We’re back at the Adelaide Fringe for our sixth year running, and honestly? There is nowhere else we’d rather be.

What’s the deal?

If you’re new to the show, the concept is beautifully stupid: we take a world-famous film script, run it through a gauntlet of online translators until the dialogue is absolute gibberish, and then hand it to a cast of actors to perform live.

The kicker? The actors are seeing these scripts for the very first time on stage.

It’s a high-wire act that sits somewhere between a professional theatrical experiment and a late-night comedy club fever dream. No fancy sets, no safety nets—just four mics, a row of chairs, and the pure, unadulterated absurdity of the mistranslations doing the heavy lifting.

New faces, new movies

We’re keeping things fresh for 2026 with some big additions to the lineup. You’ve been asking for it for years, so we’re finally bringing Mean Girls to the stage. (We can’t wait to see what the internet does to “fetch.”)

We’ve also added Casino Royale as a personal pick of ours. There’s just something inherently funny about watching 007 try to remain suave while his lines have had our personal brand of madness added to them. Plus, by popular demand, our Love Actually special is making its way out of the Christmas archives and into the main Fringe season.

You never know who’s dropping by

One of the best things about being back in Adelaide is the community. We’re bringing a few guest stars from around the world along for the ride. Part of the magic is that “who’s who” of the Fringe circuit. You never quite know which international comedian or local legend might pop up to tackle a script.

Why the Rhino Room?

“Adelaide’s always been home,” says co-creator Aaron Finan. “It’s where the scripts premiere, where the community shows up night after night, and where the show keeps evolving.”

There’s a specific energy upstairs at the Rhino Room that you just can’t replicate anywhere else. It’s raw, it’s chaotic, and it’s as “Fringe” as it gets.
