We’re back in Edinburgh for Halloween

After a smashing debut run at Edinburgh Fringe 2025, Lost in Translation is back – and we’re celebrating Halloween the only way we know how: by mangling a beloved pop culture phenomenon through the chaos of online translation.

On Wednesday 29th October at 8pm, we’re returning to the Gilded Saloon to tackle the sparkling vampire romance that defined a generation: Twilight.

What’s the Twist?

For the uninitiated, here’s how Lost in Translation works: we take an iconic film script – in this case, Stephenie Meyer’s tale of forbidden love between a teenage girl and a century-old vampire – and run it through online translation tools a dozen times. The result? Linguistic mayhem. Poetic nonsense. Absolute gold.

Then comes the really fun part: our guest performers read these gloriously mangled scripts live on stage, in character, for the very first time. No rehearsals. No preparation. Just pure chaos.

Will Edward still declare his love in the meadow? Almost certainly – but probably not in the way you remember. Will Bella remain our clumsy, danger-prone protagonist? Perhaps, though she might have a few new personality traits courtesy of mistranslation.

To get maximum enjoyment from the show, we highly recommend rewatching Twilight beforehand. Half the fun is recognising which scene is happening whilst the dialogue is saying something completely different. You’ll find yourself thinking “wait, this is meant to be the biology class scene!” whilst the characters are discussing something utterly unrecognisable.
